School Results

It’s no secret that we are extremely proud of our pupils, both in school and beyond, and the results that they achieve whilst at Great Barr Academy.  As a school we have a proven track record of academic excellence, and our team of outstanding and experienced teachers are committed to delivering a consistently great curriculum in a truly supportive, secure and caring environment, allowing students to continue aiming high and achieving.

We actively ensure the experiences, knowledge and skills that each and every one of our pupils needs to challenge themselves and realise their individual potential from Year 7 to Sixth Form and throughout their lives.

The last three years has seen a period of fast-paced, strategic development in a wide range of areas across this academy.  Working as a single, focussed unit, staff have been galvanised to bring about more robust measures for improving the teaching, learning and outcomes for all students in our care.

Following a staff restructure we began the process of reorganising our student body into four mini-schools: Johnson, Brunel, Franklin and Darwin.  We changed the uniform from black to a more business-like grey and were overwhelmed by the commitment and support from parents.  Four outstanding Progress Leaders (teachers) and Pastoral Managers (Support) provide strategic leadership to each mini-school and teaching staff focus on under performing groups of students.  There has been extensive leadership, curriculum and timetabling adaptations.  We are pleased to say that we have secured an improvement in attainment at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.”

Our current school results

Our pupils’ latest achievements and our current Great Barr Academy results reflect our ethos for excellence perfectly.  Whilst we adopt a philosophy for personal progression and achievement through class and home learning tasks, we team this with a challenging academic, sporting and performing arts curriculum to maximise opportunities and enhance the educational experience further.

In 2018 we have seen an improvement in the percentage of students achieving a strong pass (grade 5 or above) in English and Mathematics.  We have celebrated outstanding results in the separate sciences with 90% of students achieving a grade 4 or above in Chemistry, 90% of students achieving a grade 4 or above in Physics and 95% of students achieving a grade 4 or above in Biology.  100% of students achieved Dance BTEC and 100% of students entered for French achieved a grade 4 or above with 70% in Spanish.
