Senior Leadership Team

Introducing our Senior Leadership Team

Mrs Kerry Inscker – Executive Headteacher

Mrs Inscker joined Great Barr Academy as Executive Headteacher in September 2019 following a successful career of over 10 years as Headteacher and Executive Headteacher in the West Midlands.  Mrs Inscker qualified as an English/Science Teacher in 1995 and since then has worked in a wide variety of schools and has experience in all tiers of school leadership.

Mr A Williams – Deputy Head Teacher (Head of Lower School and Designated Safeguarding Lead)
Mr Williams joined the Academy in 2004 as a Newly Qualified Science Teacher having already had a very successful career in the Financial Services sector.  He has previously held the post of Assistant Head Teacher (KS3).

Mr L Barker – Deputy Head Teacher (Head of Upper School)
Mr Barker joined the Academy in 2007 as a Newly Qualified English Teacher and was very quickly promoted through the department as KS3 Coordinator, Advanced Skills Teacher, Director of English and then more recently as Assistant Head Teacher for KS4.  He has previously also led on Academy Literacy and Able Learner Strategies.

Mrs J Garvey – Director of Sixth Form 
Mrs Garvey joined the Academy in 2012 as an Advanced Skills Teacher in Science, having previously worked in a variety of settings as an Advanced Skills Teacher as well as a Specialist Leader in Education.   She has also been a Lead Practitioner for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.   Since joining the Academy she became a Progress Leader for Brunel Mini School before becoming Director of Sixth Form.

Mrs J Finlay – Assistant Head Teacher (Deputy Head of Lower School)
Mrs Finlay joined the Academy in 1994 as a Newly Qualified PE and Dance Teacher.  She very quickly developed her career through the pastoral teams and led the former Ludlow House for many years.  Prior to her promotion to the Leadership Team, she was our Head of Inclusion and SENCO.

Miss E Painter – Assistant Head Teacher (Deputy Head of Upper School)
Miss Painter joined the Academy in 2006 as a Newly Qualified PE Teacher.  She also developed her career through the pastoral teams and led the former Dudley House for many years.  When we changed to a mini-school structure, Miss Painter became Progress Leader for Franklin School.

Mrs D Allen – Assistant Head Teacher (Teaching and Learning)  
Mrs Allen joined the Academy in 2008 as an Advanced Skills Teacher in Religious Studies and leading on the Learn to Learn curriculum.  In her previous school she was Head of a successful Religious Studies Department and then moved into Pastoral and became Head of Year.  In 2003 she gained Advanced Skills Teacher Status.  Whilst in the academy she has promoted a program called Progress First and led and organised whole school PSHE and Personal Development days.

Mrs M Hunt – Assistant Head Teacher (Curriculum) 
Since joining the Great Barr Academy community in 2001 Mrs Hunt has worked passionately within a number of roles.  Her first love being that of a Drama Teacher and her biggest achievement to date being able to establish our hugely successful Performing Arts Faculty.  Mrs Hunt is now looking forward to the challenge of shaping the curriculum for future generations of Great Barr Students.

Mr C Randle – Assistant Head Teacher (SENCO)
Mr Randle joined the Academy in 2005 as a Newly Qualified PE Teacher.  He quickly achieved promotion to Second in Department in PE and from there to Deputy Head of House and then Head of House for the former Warwick House.  Moving into his first whole school role, Mr Randle became Head of Inclusion and from there, he became the Academy’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO).                                   .
