The Role and Department:

In recent years, our English Department has been singled out for recognition for the excellent work it is doing. You will be joining a very strong, united, creative, motivated and successful team in which high quality teaching and learning is always at the top of the agenda; our Director of English is a former Leading Practitioner after all!

At KS5, we offer A Levels in English Literature, English Language/Literature and Media Studies.

The Candidate:

We’re looking for a candidate with real passion for their subject and a desire to be an outstanding classroom practitioner.

Applications welcome from experienced English teachers with a track record of teaching consistently good and outstanding lessons and of 0 or positive Progress 8 scores, or from potential NQTs who are making strong progress in their training.

We have an NQT induction programme which is considered to be an exemplar of good practice. This is an excellent place for an outstanding English Teacher to develop their career.

All but one member of the Geography Department, from the Director of Geography downwards, started their careers at Great Barr School as NQTs. Over the last few years, a number of our Geography teachers who started as NQTs have moved on to promotions in other schools. The message is simple: Great Barr School has an excellent track record of supporting the growth of outstanding Geography teachers and giving them the skills and experience needed to develop their careers.

The team is supportive, creative, enthusiastic, passionate and committed to the success of our children.

The department will deliver Edexcel Geography GCSE and Edexcel Geography A Level.

We are looking for a candidate who is not afraid of hard work, whose aim it is to become an outstanding classroom practitioner and who can demonstrate their practical commitment to achieving their aim.
