The Department:

The History Department is a large and popular department which is delivering good results for our children. We consistently have 150 to 200 students opting for GCSE History and are currently the most popular option subject, so the ability to teach GCSE is essential.

We currently run the AQA GCSE History Course, teaching: Elizabeth I 1568-1603, Britain: Medicine 1000-Present Day; Germany 1890-1945 and the Cold War; Conflict in Asia. At A Level we also deliver the AQA specification, teaching: Modern Britain 1950-2007; Russia 1682-1796. The ability and willingness to teach A Level would be highly desirable.

Consisting of five full time specialists, we are a supportive and innovative team. We pride ourselves on being a committed team who work collaboratively to provide the best possible opportunities for our students. We welcome applications from team players who are prepared to go the extra mile.

The Role and Department:

Almost every member of our Geography Department, from the Director of Geography downwards, started their careers at Great Barr Academy as NQTs or Teach First trainees. Over the last few years, a number of our Geography teachers who started as NQTs have moved on to promotions in other schools. The message is simple: Great Barr Academy has an excellent track record of supporting the growth of outstanding Geography teachers and giving them the skills and experience needed to develop their careers.

The department deliver Edexcel Geography GCSE and Edexcel Geography A Level.

Candidates must be able to offer German to GCSE level with either Spanish or French to GCSE level and (desirable) to A Level.

Our MFL Department offers three languages – German, French and Spanish – at KS3, GCSE (AQA) and A Level (AQA).

The department organises regular overseas visits to give the children the opportunity to develop their language skills in a real context. The department includes mother-tongue staff in French, German and Spanish.

The Role and the Department:

Teaching both Food and Textiles Technology, you will be based in our well-equipped Technology block which includes specialist teaching facilities for both subjects.

Our busy, dynamic Food Department teaches food science at KS3 and KS4. GCSE (WJEC Eduqas) in Food Preparation & Nutrition is popular at KS4 and we have also introduced BTEC Cooking Skills for students who are unable to access the GCSE qualifications.

Textiles Design is a successful subject; last year 72% of GCSE students gained A*-C. Some of our students also won the Birmingham Rotary Club Design Award, an award in which our students have collected prizes 10 times in past 12 years.

The role also includes teaching some Art at KS3; further support will be given in this area.

The Candidate:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Food & Textiles Technology teacher who is able to teach both subjects up to KS4; KS5 would be an advantage.

You will need to be a good team player with excellent practical organisational skills. Candidates who can demonstrate creative flair and who are seeking to engage the children in Food & Textiles Technology both within the classroom and through extra-curricular work will go straight to the front of the queue.

The Department:

Drama, alongside Music and Dance, is part of our faculty of Performing Arts. Drama is one of the most popular subjects on the curriculum and achieves excellent results at GCSE (summer 2017, 75% A*-C).

Drama is offered a KS3, KS4 (OCR GCSE Drama) and KS5 (OCR A Level Drama and Theatre.) We have excellent facilities with a large number of dedicated Performing Arts teaching spaces. A wealth of extra-curricular activities are offered to the children through trips to the theatre, lunch time clubs, public performances and a large scale musical theatre performance every 2 years. Our Drama Department is very proud of having nurtured several young actors in recent years who have gone on to Drama School and have quickly established successful theatre and TV careers.

The Candidate:

Applicants must be willing and able to teach either English to KS3 or Media Studies to KS5 as the timetable will include second subject teaching.

We are looking for a talented KS2-3 Transition Teacher to work in our Inclusion Support Unit providing specialised teaching which meets the needs of our SEN and low ability pupils.

Working closely with our SENCO, the successful candidate will preferably be primary trained or specifically KS2-3 trained in English or Maths and will have the ability to teach across the spectrum for Numeracy, Literacy and Topic lessons. If the successful candidate is primary trained, we will support them in making the transition and becoming fully rounded secondary teachers.

The Department and the Role:

Science is a strong, firmly established department which achieves good results and has an excellent reputation. Our children enjoy their Science lessons.

In our last inspection in July 2016, OFSTED said that “Attainment and progress in science are very strong at key stage 3 and well above the national average at key stage 4.” Past reports have praised the quality of teaching in Science.

The Science Department delivers a diverse range of examination courses:

• GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science (Trilogy).
• A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Science

At the top of our agenda is challenging, well structured, engaging and innovative teaching and learning in which pupils make measurable progress in every lesson and are aware of what they need to do to take the next step in their learning. Our team of Leading Practitioners support staff in their continuous professional development and disseminate good practice. Three of our Leading Practitioners are Science specialists.

The Department:

The IT & Computing Team work hard to ensure that all students are provided with stimulating and challenging lessons in which they make good progress. The team are not afraid to innovate and see how the latest technologies and techniques can be used to enrich and strengthen the curriculum. All Computer Science teachers have their own dedicated IT suite.

The Business & Computing Department deliver courses across Key Stages 3, 4 & 5. At KS4, we offer GCSE Computer Science (OCR) and at KS5 we offer A level Computer Science (OCR) and Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Information Technology.

The Candidate:
