Challenging and rewarding – in equal measure.  Adjectives that encapsulate what it means to work at Great Barr Academy in a teaching or support role.

Our core values guide and drive everything we do from the simplest administrative task through to running our ‘Teaching to the Top’ initiative.  By adhering to these principles, we will reach our ultimate goal of igniting a passion for learning in our pupils and instilling a strong sense of self-belief and a desire to succeed.

Core values

• Striving for excellence in academic achievement.
• Inclusive, continuous commitment to improvement.
• Empowering all to apply their skills and knowledge.
• Integrity and respect at the forefront of all that we do.

Under the headship of Ingrid Abrahams, the school has demonstrated improvements at many levels. Our A-level results have seen a significant improvement on last year and we are also celebrating an outstanding 100% pass rate in Level-3 vocational courses.  We continue to be recognised as one of the best scientific education establishments in the area, with an ever growing reputation for sporting activities and performing arts.

Mathematics is one of the areas we have identified for improvement, so in preparation for GCSEs, we initiated a programme of masterclasses delivered by our deputy head who is also one of the Department for Education’s ‘talented leaders’.

We have also initiated an independent homework programme to reinforce our pupils’ learning at home, combined with extra support lunchtime sessions on specific topics.

Great Barr is an extremely proactive school, where teachers, support staff and pupils are encouraged to make their voices heard and discuss areas where we need to improve and to make positive contribution to making us better, and solving issues that prevent us from reaching our goal.

If you share our values and have a strong desire to ‘make a difference’ at whatever level or position, and are interested in working with us at Great Barr Academy, we would love to hear from you.
