World Book day 2019 is fast approaching, we shall be celebrating this day in school on Wednesday 6th March.

As in previous years, we are inviting all staff to attend work on that day dressed as their favourite book character. Staff will have their photograph taken and form part of a “Guess Who My Teacher is Dressed as…” Quiz which will take place in form time. Previous years have seen many staff participate with a huge variety of characters on show across the school – so we are very excited to see who makes an appearance this year!

This year we are also inviting KS5 students to join us by dressing as their favourite book characters, letters have already gone out to pupils via form tutors. The “best dressed” students will join the staff at 1pm for the group photo.

As well as this:

• Mr Weighall has got Book Tokens for KS3 students these will be placed into form registers that week.
• Miss Raza has a wonderful narrative starter for us all to participate in the spirit of the day
• Mrs O’Sullivan and some KS5 pupils will be hosting a second hand book sale (with a twist – details to follow) at break and lunchtime in the Library. If anyone has any second hand books they would like to donate, please can these be delivered to Room 32 by Friday 1st March.

Reading with your child can have long lasting benefits and the good news is that reading together for just 10 minutes can make all the difference.

We would like to encourage all parents to read with your child at home and the following letter has lots of ideas and information about how you can ‘Share a Story’ at home.

Please find below a copy of our letter to parents and carers.

We hope everyone enjoys World Book Day and spends some time enjoying a good book!
