At Great Barr Academy the vast majority of Year 7, 8 and 9 students study a 3 year broad and balanced curriculum model.

In Year 9, students are then allocated an additional two lessons of science, allowing each science discipline of Biology, Chemistry and Physics to be allocated three hours per subject.  By this stage Performing Arts students have specialised into either Drama or Music.

During Year 9 your child will choose which subjects to study at Key Stage 4 (Years 10 to 11, ages 14-16). These will be the subjects they will take for GCSE exams.  Here at Great Barr Academy pupils can study subjects that fall within the following categories:

  • The EBACCS
  • Expressive Arts
  • Social and Cultural
  • Business and Technologies
